What was World of Motion?

World of Motion was a dark ride that was used to be at Epcot in Disneyworld from 1982 to 1996. The attraction took visitors to see the history of transportation.

Ride Through

As the ride starts, you witness cavemen blowing their feet after a long walk in cave.
The second scene showcases an animation of water transportation of boats and rafts. It also depicts Assyrians using camels as transporation


The third scene depicts the invention of the wheel. There are three men holding up each 3 different shapes; a circle, a triangle, and a square. The circle gets chosen.
An animated videos of a chariot lot is shown. Later, the transportation of ships is depicted. Christopher Columbus uses a telescope to stare into a sea serpent.


The fourth scene showcases Leonardo da Vinci uses a flying machine while ignoring Mona Lina nearby. Next, a man on a hot air balloon cane be seen.
Afterwards, a horse with its carriage is getting stucked. Next, a steamboat can be seen. A train in the Wild West is being robbed by robbers.


The fifth scene depicts a man falling off his bike in mud with 2 pigs.
The world's first traffic jam is shown during the 1910s. The invention of airplanes is also depicted.
The cars of the 1940's and 1950's can be later be seen.


The ride vehicle goes through a tunnel using videos to mimic a modern day simulator attraction. A futursitic city is later depicted.
When you exit the ride, you get the chance to window shop General Motor's latest cars.

An animatronic post-show called Bird and Tiger depicts a parrot showcasing guests of General Motor's assembly line

Why did the Ride Close?

World of Motion closed due to the high demand of thrill rides in the park. This caused the development and opening of Test Track.


Fun Facts!

  • This ride is believed to be the sequel to 1964's Worlds Fair ride "Ford's Magic Skyway."

  • The sea serpent was displayed in Hollywoodland at Disney California Adventure as a prop.

  • The theme song for World of Motion, "Fun to be Free," was played at Epcot's firework show, "Epcot Forever."

  • The Test Track Pavillion logo uses the same as World of Motion.

  • One of the cars from World of Motion was displayed at Test Track 1.0 queue.
